We all love things that look good, feel good and work well whether they are cars, mobiles, machines or toilets. We love memorable experiences whether they are of holidays, movies, weddings. concerts, or conferences. We love services that are quick, don’t hassle us or make is feel cheated or stupid.
An evening at the Grand Canyon under a setting Sun. A Ferrari, even if it just stands. A well marked stretch of asphalt running away. A screen proudly showing the abilities of an instrument. The weave and waft of a fabric. A machine that inspires awe and assurance. A staircase winding its a way up. An icon, symbol, imprint or logo arresting our attention. A page laid out so well that reading it is almost unnecessary.
We notice, remember or talk about such things. We may even forget them but they stay with us just as we keep looking for beauty, elegance, aesthetics, fluidity, anchoring, meaning, essence…
Day in and day out, we keep struggling with things that are anything but the above. So we yearn.
A meeting point of such yearnings by dreamers, technicians, artisans and workers is design. Designers must live in all of them.
